Position Summary
Under general direction, the Maintenance Mechanic plays a vital role in supporting The Arc Rockland’s mission by ensuring all agency-owned and leased properties remain safe, functional, and welcoming for the individuals we serve and our workforce. This position is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on building systems and equipment, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical components. This role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to quality and safety, making it an essential part of our team’s ability to deliver exceptional care and services.
Role’s Responsibilities

• Perform routine and emergency maintenance on building systems.
• Handle repairs related to HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Detect and troubleshoot maintenance issues visually and functionally.
• Complete assigned tasks and projects within established timelines.
• Respond to emergency repair calls and participate in shared weekend/evening on-call duties.
• Use basic maintenance tools proficiently for repairs and upkeep.
• Maintain organized work processes and documentation.
• Operate a vehicle for work-related tasks in compliance with agency driving standards.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required (up to 50 lbs frequently; heavier items with assistance).
• Work in various postures (standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching overhead) to complete maintenance tasks.
• Ensure safe handling and movement of large or hard-to-handle items (e.g., furniture).
Requirements
• High school diploma or GED required
• Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience working in building operations or maintenance
• Valid New York State driver’s license, active for a minimum of two (2) years, and a clean driving record
Knowledges, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs)
• Extensive knowledge of building trades
• Strong understanding of mechanical equipment for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
• Proficiency with basic maintenance tools
• Good organizational skills
• The ability to work flexible hours in the event of emergency repairs or on-call duties
• Capability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently; heavier items with assistance
• Ability to maintain balance and perform fine motor tasks
