Frequently Asked Questions
Q- Will my child receive transportation to and from school?
A-Yes. All students who attend our program are eligible for transportation through their local school district. Families will be contacted directly by the transportation company regarding pick-up and drop-off times.
Orange County transportation is provided by Quality Bus 845-374-3611, Rockland County transportation is provided by Student Bus 845-371-0800
Q- Will my child receive lunch at school?
A- Yes. Clarkstown Central School District provides lunches to our program for children who wish to participate in our lunch program. Our registration packet contains information about our lunch program as well as the free and reduced lunch application.
Q - Does PTFK provide snacks?
A- No. Families are responsible for sending 2 snacks per day. We prefer healthy snacks, but we also recognize that many of our students have limited food repertoires, so we accept any snacks your child will eat. We are a peanut-free facility.
Q- Are all PTFK teachers certified?
A- Yes. All PTFK teachers are New York State certified special education teachers.
Q- Will teachers and therapists communicate with me about my child’s progress?
A- Yes. Teachers and therapists will communicate with you regularly through your child’s Prime Time email account. It is essential that you review your child’s account regularly. Communicate openly with your child’s team and provide them with any relevant information about your child’s needs.
Q- Will teachers and therapists communicate with each other about my child’s progress?
A- Yes. In addition to the spontaneous communication that occurs daily when therapists return students to their classrooms, teachers and therapists meet regularly to discuss the needs of children in each classroom and strategies that work in both settings.
Q- What is an IEP?
A- An IEP is an Individualized Education Plan. It provides information to teachers and therapists about your child’s areas of weakness and strength, goals and objectives, and any accommodations your child needs.
Q- What is the CPSE?
A- The CPSE is the Committee on Preschool Special Education. The committee is made up of the school district’s CPSE chairperson, a school district teacher, a PTFK representative, and most importantly, you! This committee meets at least once a year to review your child’s progress toward IEP goals, discuss special education and related services, and make recommendations for services and goals for the upcoming school year. You can request a CPSE meeting at any time during the school year for the team to review your child’s current program.
Q- Does my child need to be toilet trained before coming to school?
A- No. Some kids at PTFK are toilet trained and some are not. You will need to send diapers or pull-ups for your child.
Q- Does PTFK work on toilet training?
A- Yes. Our staff members work with our families to create a toilet training plan that meets the needs of each child and supports your family
