Salary Range: $65,520-$73,710
*Up to $1000 in sign-on bonuses available- Earn $500 after 6 months of full-time employment and an additional $500 after 9 months of full-time employment.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Chief Clinical Officer or Designee, the incumbent will provide direct nursing care by assessing, planning, organizing, documenting, administering, and evaluating nursing care services for students at Prime Time for Kids and for intellectually and developmentally disabled adults receiving supports and services through one or more of the Community Services programs provided by The Arc Rockland. Care delivery will be done in compliance with rules and regulations of the NYS Department of Education, the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and The Arc Rockland within the scope of the practice and assessed as such. The Nurse directs and guides the activities of other nursing-related personnel while maintaining standards of professional practice and the established policies and procedures of the Children’s Services, Community Services and Clinical Services Departments.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing, BSN preferred.
Minimum Experience: At least one year of experience within the Human Services field or as a NYSED School Nurse.
Required Certification/Registration: Active New York State RN License required, BSN preferred. Current BLS certification must be obtained and maintained.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs clinical/physical/student and adult assessments; provides on-going monitoring and reassessment of program attendees’ needs, and first aid/ triage. Follow up as required on all emergent/medical concerns with documentation.
- 2May be required to administer medications/treatments to all program attendees including vital signs.
- Develops and implements plan of nursing care in collaboration with other disciplines. Evaluates plans of care using interdisciplinary approach and updates plans as needed and at least 1x per year.
- Recommends medical referrals for students and adults as needed; plays an active role in recognizing emergent situations, responds, and manages individuals appropriately, in a timely manner; arrange health and wellness services for supported adults as needed.
- Provides direction as needed to LPN’s and direct support staff based on individual’s plan of nursing care.
- Supports the interdisciplinary approach to individual care as well as the team process and participates in team activities as directed by the Chief Clinical Officer or designee.
- Provides consultation and in-service training to school employees, aides, DSPs, etc. attending staff meetings and required in-service training sessions.
- Provides oversight to AMAP certified staff, which includes trainings and in-servicing pertaining to regulations/OPWDD requirements.
- Participates in routine case reviews/IEP’s/Life Plan meetings, ensuring that all attending program persons needs are addressed and rights are enforced related to nursing issues, while adhering to agency policy on confidentiality.
- Maintains and orders supplies as required, including emergency medications, Durable Medical Equipment, over the counter medications and regularly ordered medications as ordered by Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Dentist, and Psychiatrist for all attendees of the school/clinical/community services.
- Monitors daily attendance and follows through on program or school participant absences; coordinates the person’s return to school/program from hospitalization or prolonged illness.
- Maintains up to date health records including but not limited to physicals, immunizations and prescriptions for Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech and Medication Administration.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe work environment, OSHA/Infection Control Policies/Procedures; maintains records for AED.
- Maintains a current Cardex system on each attendee to the programs served.
- Keeps abreast of changes in the nursing field, and SED Requirements for School Nurses and OPWDD.
- Provides coverage for other agency nurses, as directed by the Chief Clinical Officer or designee.
